to Del Rio TX 19 Mar - Stan's Excellent Cross Country Ride 2025 - CycleBlaze

to Del Rio TX 19 Mar

Windy at times last night, but warm.  We have had a couple of warmer nights where a light sleeping bag was ok.  Last evening, we discussed today's ride and it looked like it could be tough with 75 miles and a big head wind.  The reality was much more to my liking.  The first 10 miles or so was slightly downhill with a big tailwind.  Then we turned into a nice little road with little traffic but rough surface.  The wind was not a huge factor as it was not as strong and  only a partial head wind.

We got to Bracketville by 11 instead of after 12 as  I feared.  The next bit was more into the wind and on US HWy 90.  Again we were able to go faster than I feared and got to Del Rio by 3.  John wanted something cold and settled for a shamrock shake. Then we hit a couple of bike shops, one of which was closed and the other didn't have what I was after.  It was a fairly hard ride, especially after the Texas Hill Country, but didn't leave us trashed.

We are at a Motel 6 tonight, sleeping indoors.  Tomorrow is at a state park, do not be surprised if there is not an update.

Today's ride: 76 miles (122 km)
Total: 1,769 miles (2,847 km)

Margaret GoodmanGreat photos today. I love Rust n Peace. And the empty road and shadow— classic. Thanks.

Nancy WrightI bet the rough road you are talking about is 334. One of the roughest roads on my 2010 trip. But, no traffic! 😵‍💫 If you are staying on the Adventure Cycling route, there is a road in California that is MUCH rougher than that one…

stan rosenstielTo Nancy WrightYou have a great memory. It all blends together for me. This is a trip run by Adventure Cycling so we will be on the current route a lot. Florida was off route for some reason
