To Dauphin Island Alabama 25 Feb

No problem with the GPS as we were indoors. Breakfast supplied by hotel, lunch prepared in parking lot.  Pretty busy out of Pensacola. We finally got some less busy roads, but then into touristy Gulf Shores. On the other hand, it has definitely warmed up- no tights again.

Three of us have been riding together since early on. We gathered up two more on the way to the ferry.

Now it gets interesting:

The organizer met us at the dock and was prepared to cross with us. Sadly, the ferry was unable to take him with the trailer and he was going to have to drive all around Mobile Bay and through Mobile.

Soon after he took off, the ferry came in and announced that the ferry would not take any vehicles due to a bad clutch. There also would not be any later trips today.  We contacted some of the riders who were nearby to get them back for this last trip. And we contacted today's driver to tell him to come back to get the few cyclists who were not going to be in time for the ferry. A lot of stuff going on.  The trip was uneventful for us.

There were alot of Laughing Gulls, Brown Pelicans, and D C Cormorants on the rocks. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary had been burned recently and there were almost no birds.

The driver had to come back and pick up the last three cyclists and then start driving the long way to Dauphin Island. This meant they didn't arrive until after 6. We had ordered some pizza by then as it would be far too late for us to prepare our usual meal. Dinner was rather late - after 7.

We had seen the vehicle over by a diner in Gulf Shores. for lunch.

Today's ride: 58 miles (93 km)
Total: 606 miles (975 km)
