05/18/24 The End

I’ve reached the end of the cycling portion of this adventure. I had been planning to ride to Villahermosa and close the gap in my route maps, but it’s insanely hot down there. If there were a destination on the other end I could perhaps power through the discomfort, but not just for a map.

I’ll be riding to Tuxtla Gutiérrez tomorrow, but after that it will be largely busses, with some biking if the weather’s fine.  I’m slowly working my way back to the US, with my bicycle as an oversized luggage cart. I’m headed to the Yucatán where I’ll meet old friends and then to Mexico City to meet another. After that it’s TBD but will likely include Zacatecas, possibly Durango.

I’ll still post on Instagram occasionally (@dechavez55) but won’t be blogging about it here. Partly because it’s no longer a bike ride but mostly because I’m taking a vacation.

A year on my bike

Patrick O'HaraHey David. Really enjoyed following along. Too bad I'm not on IG, otherwise, I might just be tempted to follow your vacation. Thanks for sharing your adventure. It was a pleasure to read.

Rich FrasierI’m sorry to see this journey and journal come to an end. Your pictures and words have really opened up Central America for me. Congratulations on a great trip. Hope the denouement is good. Visits with old friends are satisfying.
