01/03/24 La Paz

These last few days have been a chore. The landscape not being especially exciting is partly the reason, but mostly it’s because I haven’t been feeling 100% since my bad coconut. I haven’t had much of an appetite and wasn’t eating enough nor have I been sleeping well, so the miles crawled by.

My intent had been to stop just outside La Paz and camp at an RV park and stopped at a Super Pollo for dinner before arriving.  And all of a sudden I found myself craving chicken, the smell was so delicious. I devoured a half chicken and immediately felt rejuvenated. So much so that I rode past the RV park and continued into the city and went to the same hotel I stayed on my previous ride, which I remembered being quiet and comfortable and found it still the same (though the breakfast service didn’t survive the pandemic).

I’m taking a few days off. I have a sticky shifter that I expect will take a while to sort out, then hopefully lounge on the beach waiting for the ferry.

Pretty much the view today

The wasps are not especially aggressive, but their sting, although not dangerous, is among the most painful on earth. I have been around many of them without a hint of aggression.

Milkweed flowers: Seems they attract all manner of wasps and other insects.

It’s unusual to encounter north bound cyclists on this route. This was not your usual cyclist!
