To Kranjska Gorica
After Bohinj I took a short train ride to Bled and then rode through yet more spectacular scenery to Kranjska Gorica. The weather went bad again so I booked a hotel and planned for the big climb up Vrsic Pass the next day.
It was still pouring down in the morning and I thought it wise to take a rest day and ride the pass the following day. Hopefully that would mean more views and a little more dryness since the weather was forecast to improve a little.
As I write this I’m in a hotel looking out at the rain. I’ve caught up a few chores like laundry and planning the days ahead but I’m ready to move. I’m looking forward to riding the big pass!
The Vrsic Pass is the highest mountain pass in Slovenia. From my side it has 24 switchbacks going up and 26 down the other side. Each switchback is numbered. I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing: on the one hand it could tell you that you have a long way to go and on the other it could say you’re nearly there.
