Day 3
New Denver to Slocan City
{Map}
We woke by 7:00 again and packed up our sodden tent. Our sleeping bags stayed mostly dry, thanks to our thick thermarests. We were on the bikes by 9:30. There is no rail-trail in this section so we followed Highway 6 all day. There wasn’t much vehicle traffic on the road, and no other cyclists.
After a 5 km ride we entered Silverton, another 100+ year old prospecting town. It featured a surprisingly well stocked hardware store, with enough stuff to build and furnish many cabins.
Then began the long climb up to the lookout above Slocan city. It seemed to go on forever, but in reality only took a few hours - all in our lowest gears.

Shortly after leaving the lookout, the road fell steeply down and it began to rain - hard. The extra elevation brought the temperature down. We hadn’t brought enough warm clothes - it was 30C in Kamloops when we left.
We coasted into Slocan by 2:30 and camped in the Municipal Campground ($31).
Today's ride: 32 km (20 miles)
Total: 87 km (54 miles)
