RT 66 Day 9-Up, up and away

Day 9 started in Ft Mohave, near the Colorado River, about 400 ft of elevation. Thanks to Diane for a great dinner and nice overnight accommodations.

The first hard climb was 16 miles to Oatman, historic AZ western town that is now more touristy, with RT 66 trinkets and burros, yes lots of free ranging burros to steer clear of.

The climb up to Oatman was a challenging 2,200 ft. First of three big climbs of the day.

Chris is pointing to the next hill to climb, with glee.

After Oatman, our climbing continued to the Sitgreaves Pass. For riders familiar with N Georgia Gaps, this climb is like going up Wolf Pen Gap, on an 80 lb bike. Rough but we made it.

One of us (me, Dave) a little slower than the other.

Sitgreaves Pass is the steepest climb on RT 66. Glad it’s in the rear view mirror. We finished the day at close to 5,000 Ft of climbing. We were beat. Onward…
