RT 66 Day 36-Mural City

Another hilly and mostly uneventful ride through central Missouri. Mostly uneventful. As we passed through the town of Bourbon a woman in an SUV stopped and looked at me before making a left onto the two lane road but then pulled out anyway. I was forced to slow down quickly and Dave ran into me and went down. Fortunately there was grass beside the shoulder which softened the blow. She drove off but another driver who saw the incident stopped to check on us. It could have been much worse but Dave and is bike are ok. After just crossing the 2,000 mile mark it was our first crash. It turned out the guy who stopped was a former cyclist, now 75, who did a CA to Maine ride decades ago. He bought us lunch in a cafe in the next town. Thanks John!

Stopped for an early IHOP breakfast in Rolla.

The local library was decorated with murals.

We’ve seen a lot of murals but little did we know that we’d yet to pass through the mural capital of Route 66.

And many murals there were.

A bridge outage had the road closed so we had to briefly hop over to the interstate to get around it. At this point road closures don’t faze us.

Here’s an investment for any of you hoping to cash in on the 100 year anniversary of Route 66. Not the first one we’ve seen.
