RT 66 Day 31-Friendly OK Folks

We spent last night at the Tulsa Drillers AA (Dodgers) minor league game. Great night, Drillers came out on top against the Wichita WindSurge.

Day 31 was a smooth ride heading NE, Tulsa to Vinita, OK. We were blessed by the Wind Gods, with strong gusts from the south. Also today brought out many friendly and interested Oklahoma residents. Our waitress in Catoosa comped our meal (she thought we were crazy to be riding all this way) and others who just wanted to hear about the ride.

Along today’s route we visited the Blue Whale, a RT 66 historic landmark, in Catoosa, OK. It did not disappoint.

Evidently Chelsea, OK, is the birthplace of the first oil well in OK. Who knew.

Chelsea also provided a great lunch at the local diner as well as a distance map to places we’ve been, and where we’re yet to go.

Looks like Chicago is a mere 647 miles away.

Eastern Oklahoma is verdant (I know, that’s a big word for a UT grad).

Rolling into Vinita, OK, brought us to this closed cafe. A shame, as this establishment includes Big Boy, Big John, Betty Boop and an old Rambler. Nice.
