RT 66 Day 21-Willin’

Day 21 started on a high note as we were able to catch a ride from Moriarty to Santa Rosa, needed due to the snow storm which brought dangerous roads for our planned 80 mile I-40 ride. Glad to have the lift from a woman staying at the motel.

Once we arrived in Santa Rosa we decided the weather was ok to make the long 65 mile ride to Tucumcari.

The road started out in good condition but quickly deteriorated into ice, slush and mud. Lots of mud.

It was a slow slog, with many stops to get off and walk.

We were wet, cold and far from any help. We were fortunate not to have a spill or mechanical issue.

All’s well that ends well. Muddy but through the worst of it. I guess that’s the price to pay when you take the backroads.

We rolled into Tucumcari, hit a local Mexican restaurant and headed off to the KOA.
