RT 66 Day 20-Crossing the Sandias

Day 20 was an upward climb out of Albuquerque, heading up and through the Sandia mountains. A big shout out to Ben and Paulette for their warm hospitality in Albuquerque. We had a nice stay in their guesthouse, caught up on some laundry, got some needed bike work done and enjoyed a fantastic dinner. Huge.

Old Arlington High School friend and ace bike mechanic, Brant Hayenga, now living in Albuquerque, provided much needed expertise to keep my wheels in working shape.

Another high mark breakfast stop in Tejeras. Roots Farm Cafe was warm, friendly and super hip…we fit right in.

The Moriarty Sunset motel was a welcome site, as the cold winds came up in the earlier afternoon. The forcast calls for snow on Saturday, so it looks like it is time for our first rest day of the trip. We need the break as we have a big 80 mile day on Sunday to make it to Santa Rosa. As of today we ridden 1,028 miles and climbed over 40,000 ft.

Bethany Wall"Since 1959" -- how perfect! A very special year. How appropriate! ;-)
Glad you'll get some rest before that 80-mile ride. Amazing stats!

Chris WagenseilTo Bethany WallI didn’t even notice the “since 1959 tagline” but you’re right! Riding Route 66 in my 66th year.

Parked across the street from our hotel is a windmill blade transport truck. Surprising how big these things are.
