RT 66 Day 18-Continental Divide

Day 18 was long (76 miles), cold (30° at the start), hilly (2,200 ft climbing) and a milestone (we went over the top).

Last night we stayed at an AirBnB in Ramah, which was nicer than it looks. Comfortable.

We started the day around 6,900 ft and climbed up past 7,800. Snow was plentiful.

This was near Inscription Rock off of 53. Very dramatic.

Over the top at 7,882 ft. I wish I had a SGI sticker to mark the occasion.

Nice view of Mt Taylor, NM. Rising 11,305, and is the high point of the San Mateo mountains. Mt Taylor is considered to be a sacred mountain by the Hopi and Navajo peoples.

Rolling through Grants, NM, many RT 66 murals to point the way. Next up, Albuquerque, 60 miles to the east, where we’ll meet up with some old Arlington, Tx friends.
