RT 66 Day 10 - Mile High

Day 10 was a smooth ride from Kingman to Grand Canyon Caverns, 60 miles on the odometer with 2,900 feet of climbing. We’re now sitting at 5,300 feet, and will top out around 7,300 when we cross the Continental Divide in NM.

Lots of historic motels and gas stations along the way, most have not had a customer in many a year.

We rode through the Hualapai Indian Reservation, created in 1883.

Always a good reminder to take care of Mother Earth.

As we’ve headed east, and into higher elevation, the desert has given way to cowboy country. Scrub brush, cows, horses, trains and a vast landscape where you can see mountains in every direction.

Welcome to the Caverns Inn, our home for tonight. Nice to have dinosaurs guarding the front entrance.

Tomorrow we continue east. We’re about 480 miles into our trip, with Chicago 1,776 miles down the road.

Ken FeldmanGreat job documenting the ride. 1776 plays well here in Philly.
