Introduction: Figuring out our stuff
Last year, we took a short tour on Vancouver Island and although we had a few challenges, we really loved the cycling and want to do a lot more in the near future, when we both retire. So, when we got home, we made a list of what we needed to tour for longer periods of time.
First up, proper touring bikes. After reading a lot, we decided on a pair of Surley Disc Truckers. With the same bike, we can exchange parts if needed. We purchased a few other items and wanted to see how everything worked together with our bikes and panniers, as well as how well we would cope with a multi day camping/biking trip.

I had read another blog about the Pacific Marine Circle Route on Vancouver Island, also known as the Port Renfrew Loop. It looked about right for our purposes, including some challenging hills, camping in more remote areas, and some hopefully beautiful scenery along the way.
So, on a warm August day, we set off to see if we were really meant to do this cycle touring thing.
