Bain's Kloof Pass to Durbanville: A classic mountain pass ticked off to end the trip
On the road before seven o'clock to start the major part of the climb up the Bain's Kloof Pass. The entire 18 kilometers of the pass has been declared a national monument. Andrew Geddes Bain was a Scotsman who came to South Africa and was its first master road builder, being responsible for the building of eight of the major mountain passes built in the middle of the nineteenth century, all with the use of convict labour, three of whom died during the construction of Bain's Kloof Pass. His son, Thomas, continued the family profession and built more than twice as many passes as his father.
We took our time climbing the pass and then enjoyed the long descent into Wellington.

Total: 694 km (431 miles)
