Day 8: Malone to Rensselaer Falls
Against the wind
The forecast was for strong westerly winds before rain at mid-day, so I got out early. Flags at my McDonald’s breakfast stop attest to the wind speed - probably sustained at 10-15 mph with higher gusts. I forged on against the wind for the first 35 miles. After second breakfast in Potsdam, the rain started and sustained for the remainder of the ride. It was a tough slog! The entire ride until the last few miles was on Rte 11, which had moderate traffic and an excellent shoulder. Before the rains, the scenery afforded the occasional view of the St. Lawrence River to the north. I arrived at the home of our St. Lawrence/Syracuse friends Cathy and John at a little after noon, wet and cold. It’s always great to have a warm, welcoming place to come to!
