Cardwell to Dillon
After dodging a few thunderstorms the evening before, I shoved off from Cardwell in the early morning, intent on beating the hottest hours and potential thunderstorms.

The route mostly followed Rtes 55/41 to the southwest along the Jefferson River and then the Beaverhead. The broad, open valley afforded exceptional views of the Tobacco Root Mountains in the east.
Cheryl joined me for a lunch stop at Twin Bridges where we met several long distance riders.
Although the route rose over a thousand feet during the day, it was almost imperceptible. If only all climbs might be that way! I pulled into our campground around 2 PM where we should stay for two nights, the Beaverhead River RV Park. We had a great campsite directly on the river and managed to dodge storms again. I hadn’t been in Dillon since 45 years ago when I spend several days here as part of geology field camp. Wow - time flies!
Today's ride: 63 miles (101 km)
Total: 660 miles (1,062 km)
