Typhoon Yagi
Typhoon Yagi swept through northern Vietnam on the 7th of September destroying much of the area we were planning on visiting. The powerful storm battered the country's north, triggering landslides and flooding. Tragically 254 people have been confirmed dead and 82 are missing.

Our plan for our first week in Việt Nam was to relax for a few days in Hà Nội before taking a bus trip up to Sa Pa followed by a cruise in Vịnh Hạ Long aka Hạ Long Bay and finishing up in a nice resort on Cát Bà Island. Only then would we start cycling.
The typhoon has destroyed much of both Sa Pa and Cát Bà Island and the poor residents and businesses still have many weeks of cleaning up ahead of them before they should be bothered by tourists so our plans will have to change.
