Petchaburi - The sixteenth step ... From Bác Hồ to กรุงเทพมหานคร - CycleBlaze

December 3, 2024 to December 4, 2024

Petchaburi

We started off the day with another stroll down to the beachfront.  In contrast to what we suffered a week ago,  the weather has been perfect apart from the wind during our stay at Chao Samran.

Fishing with drag nets in the shallows must be hard work.

The ride to Petchaburi was mercifully short.  It is flat, straight and boring so it was great that it passed quickly.

We arrived at the White Monkey, our digs for the next two nights, before eleven but were able to check in early.  Just as well because Leigh was violently sick minutes thereafter.   We think that her bouts of stomach upsets are caused by an intolerance to some of the dried shrimps that are commonly used in the cooking here.  Breakfast had been fried rice with a mix of pork and dried shrimp.  Each time she has been sick has been preceded by a meal containing dried shrimp.

She had recovered by the evening so our plans to head to Pak Thale weren't affected.  It was a good morning's birding although, as expected,  we lucked out again on the Spoon-billed Sandpiper.   However,  we did pick up a bird I have been trying to see for a number of years now, namely  Asian Dowitcher.

Black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa).

Tomorrow we carry on northwards towards Bangkok.   We're not yet sure how far we will get.  It depends on the strength of the headwind that will certainly be blowing.  Today has been relatively calm so we're holding thumbs for tomorrow.

Today's ride: 56 km (35 miles)
Total: 2,635 km (1,636 miles)
