Hua Hin

It was a hard slog back to Hua Hin today into the north-easterly wind that was blowing at about thirty kilometers an hour.  We kept as close to the coast as possible to avoid highway 4 which meant we took the full brunt of it.

Much of the coastline is in danger of being washed away and the beaches have been replaced by protective walls.

However sections of beach still exist where headlands allow the build up of sand.

We managed to make it to Hua Hin without riding a centimeter on highway 4.  We've got a hotel slap dab in the middle of the tourist area and a hundred meters from where we will collect our car tomorrow.   The bicycles will stay at the hotel until we return from Kaeng Krachan.

The beach at Hua Hin is pretty good but the sea is still uninviting, being neither calm enough to swim nor having decent waves for body surfing. Bizarrely, there are pony rides on offer.

This is the Hua Hin which I have had stuck in my brain for the past eight years - the old wooden piers.

Food prices here are four to five times more than what we are accustomed to paying.  However, our supper was probably the best quality we have eaten on this trip so far and so, all things considered, it was good value.

Today's ride: 50 km (31 miles)
Total: 2,507 km (1,557 miles)
