Hiking in the Cullins
After breakfast we caught a bus back to the Sligochan Hotel for a day hike into the Cuillan Range. We were a bit let down by the grayish conditions, a definite step down from the forecasted blue skies. We enjoyed a fine hike nevertheless, following a stream eastward along the path to Glenbrittle (another great name) for about three miles and then diverging south and upward into a large cirque at the base of the Red Cuillans. After climbing for a mile or so we reached the base of the cloud layer and quickly became fogbound. We stopped there for lunch hoping for improvements, but none were forthcoming so we dropped down and reversed our walk back to the hotel. Once there we waited an hour and a half for the bus back to Portree, exhausively reading the three day old newspaper we found in the kindling box.
Once on the bus, we were disappointed but not surprised that it did not still have the hiking pole we had forgotten on it on the drive down.
