Last full day on Washington Island, with any luck. Crossing fingers for favorable weather tomorrow.
We started with breakfast at the Island Café again this morning and were sadly disappointed. They just didn’t seem to have it together this morning. There must have been some special Grace birthday vibe going on yesterday. After that, Jon did some fishing and I biked up to the store for dinner fixings. In the afternoon, Karen and Peter took us on “the secret path” to a great swimming spot on the northwest corner of the island. It was a wonderful hike of a mile or so through the woods. The water felt so good on this hot humid day. (I know it’s a whole lot worse at home, but we’re here to escape the hot and humids!) After we got back to Gibson’s, the skies to the west started darkening. Really cool to watch them build across the lake. There were some thunderstorms on the west coast of the lake, but we just got a 1/2 hour or so of light rain.
Jon iced his puffy ankle for a while today, seems he was bit by some spiders that were hiding out in the kayak last night.
We grilled some brats and chicken and had a great salad along with it. We hung out with them and a few other guests, then walked down to the lake to watch the sunset. We tried to hang out at the dock to watch the fireworks, but were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes before they even got started. We sat and swatted for a while then gave up. (We were kinda tired too...lame.) We actually got to see some from our bedroom window so we didn’t totally miss out. 😃
