Bar sur L'Aube: Accommodation is very tight
Ken
This was our day of enforced rest. Had a good meal on the seat outside the camp last night and into bed at about 8pm as there was not much to do in the evening with minimal light and no seat. I have been reading by headlight but my arms soon give out, We both slept badly and were happy when 6am came. Unusually the nearby clock struck the hours all night and I heard every one of them
No dew so the pack up was easy and we were on the road by 7.30. The D46 was quiet and easy and progress was good with no steep hills. The sky was dark and a bit threatening. Arrived in Bar sur L’Aube by 9am and anticipating difficulty with weekend accommodation Tricia went into the Information where she stayed for at least half an hour. It turned out that there was a huge hunting jamboree on near here and along our route and no accommodation that night and a lot of difficulty the next (there are no Campings nearby0 In the end she got a 3* (68E) room here and another for the nest night a bit off the route. That would get us over the worst of the weekend.
So we checked in at 10.30 and spent till midday in the laundry next door doing a massive wash. Then into the town to have a massive ‘menu’ lunch – 3 courses 9E and extra for 500ml of Alsace white wine. Back to base to enjoy a lie down as we watched a bit of the Belgium Grand Prix. By now the weather was beautiful so off we went to explore. All along the valley of the Aube there are vines - I think it is still part of the Champagne country.
Certainly it was a very relaxing and comfortable day
