We had a pretty early start after a couple cups of coffee and planned on picking up something to eat in the nearby town of Falkland.
Falkland is known for having a very large Canadian flag up on the hillside.
From Wikipedia:
- Location: 152.4 m (500 ft) above the valley floor on Gyp Mountain
- Height: 8.5 m (28 ft)
- Width: 17.1 m (56 ft)
- Flag's Structure: 2 X 6 lumber framework, eight 14 m (46 ft) telephone poles, 83.7 t (185,000 lb) cement blocks, and metal. 3,500 screws attach the metal together. The colours are heated onto enamel.
The flag is illuminated by a 23,000 ft extension chord. The total cost of the flag was $42,493
I had difficulty finding some food and came out of the store with a bag of peanuts, cheezies and chocolate milk. I need to get better at this.
We had planned to stop at the general store in Westwold to pick up some food for lunch and supper but it was closed! Ugh!
By now it had clouded over and we were battling a headwind. 2 KMS from our campground, it started to pour. As I was going over a train track my bike slid out from under me and down I went. Luckily nothing broke - bike or me.
We limped in to camp drenched, hungry and tired.

Tomorrow should be mostly downhill into Kamloops where we have a motel booked. We are contemplating shopping for a new tent as the one we have is hard to enter and we feel extremely cramped inside. We can't imagine 2 months in it. It has however kept us warm and dry.
Ok, time to crawl into the tent and put on an extra layer. Goodnight.
Accommodation: Heritage Campground $21 free showers!
Today's ride: 42 km (26 miles)
Total: 105 km (65 miles)
