July 2 Saturday
Exploring Orleans- waterfront, Cathedral, saucisson, goat cheese and half a poulet.
It’s a lazy start to a sunny day in our apartment. We walk to the market on the Quai du Roi and lash out on saucisson, goat cheese, fruit and lettuce, pate and aubergine tapenade and half a poulet. Forward planning.
We walk along the waterfront watching an exercise class being put through their paces by an instructor who seems to be considerably more enthusiastic than his audience.

There are interesting craft on the water; a flat bottomed vessel with a sail is making good headway. Not sure what facility there is for tacking on the river. We return to our apartment via the Cathedral Saint Croix.
It has had several revamps due to natural disasters, fires and conflicts, so it’s style is mainly Gothic with splashes of classical and Romanesque styles. It’s proportions are on a par with Notre Dame and several French kings were crowned there. It is essentially a monument to St Joan and her life is told in 10 of the cathedral’s stained glass windows.
Back at our accommodation we are able to freeze a bottle of water in preparation for keeping tomorrow’s food fresh while we’re on the road.
