Still heading south through a number of pretty canal towns. A number memorable for their long canal bridges crossing the Loire below. Space is always at a bit of a premium with pedestrians crossing too. I occasionally muse on what steps I would take should either of us fall into the canal and how easy or healthy would it be retrieving a loaded cycle.

I begin to see that losing one ‘rayon’ was possibly not a major issue since I had 29 or so others- it did cause a slight wheel wobble though. The day extends a little longer than planned because Sancerre is up a fairly steep hill- good for vineyards but not cyclists- so we reject that as a possibility. From there though, the trail becomes easier and we continue on to La Charite sur Loire a pretty little town with a beautiful old church and centre ville.

No bike repair though! Take a site in the local campgrounds and catch up with a Luxembourg cyclist who we had helped earlier in the week- he thanks us with some wonderfully sweet goat cheese and choc bars- the camaraderie of the route.
Our camembert has reached just the right temperature, consistency and odeur and so I do us all a favour by polishing it off. Interesting to chat to the young woman in the camp ground office- she speaks four languages and had a degree associated but what job prospects?
Today's ride: 71 km (44 miles)
Total: 1,041 km (646 miles)
