Alteiselfing to Kundl
We get closer to mountains, swim in a see, and find refuge at Kundl.
Yesterday’s agricultural theme continues, with our stay at Gasthof Lax, as the neighbour’s manure pile exudes its perfume and attracts flies. We breakfast speedily as the flies have assumed plague proportions and are challenging us for the food. We put together a couple of rolls and grab some fruit before exiting stage left pursued by swarms.

Once outside we are on the road in the lovely early morning. To pick up the trail again, we make our way cross country and find our favourite Innradweg signs in Griesstatt, where we cross the river. The Inn is still and reflects distant mountains as we speed down to Rosenheim.
We enter Rosenheim through a riverside park with walkways and sculptures. Too early to picnic here, but they have 5 bike shops in town, so we get an air top up.
The mountains are now beside us and the valley narrows, funnelling road and rail traffic towards Innsbruck. A biergarten by the weg offers lunchtime shade and seating and shared strudel. Beer and apfel juice supplement our breakfast rolls.
We are delighted to come to Kiefersee, its water blue and edged by green grass, colourful umbrellas, and sunbathers. We park bikes under tree and have a cool dip.
Osterreich bids us wilkommen (we have crossed the border back into Germany at some point) before Kufstein and we continue on, while the going is good. Had thought camping there would be the day’s destination, but did not see little tent signs anywhere. At Kundl we have a google fix on camping but it turns to custard, so cross river and start on the hill to the “see” where there are a few sites. It’s up and we are not sure how “up”. Getting late, getting tired, evening traffic heavy, we descend and try the few gasthofs below. No luck.
Back to Kundl, find centre, and prayers answered, Herr Bramock answers my bell with a hello from window above. He promptly turns his Zimmer sign to closed, but opens the gate for tired cyclists. Beautiful haus: old and stately. Our room is oak furniture in lovely style. It has a fridge and kettle. Make a salad and use up Uncle Ben’s rice and our other supplies.
Today's ride: 95 km (59 miles)
Total: 2,540 km (1,577 miles)
