Day 2 - Chur (Switzerland) to Vaduz (Liechtenstein)

Connecting with Brian and Frances in Liechtenstein

We woke up in Chur thinking we'd do a quick breakfast at McDonald's since our hotel was right above it, but it didn't open until 10. So we ate breakfast at a Migros instead which was really nice.

As we made our way out of Chur, we could see the Rhine was gathering in strength. It was bigger than we remembered seeing the previous day on our ride into town.

We saw some long fields of corn as we began riding towards Vaduz. It reminded us of our home trails in the mid Atlantic (minus the majestic mountains in the background)

Cornfield views just like home - except with mountains

We smelled something "interesting" about half way into our ride to Vaduz. Upon closer examination we found a field of garlic and onions.

I'm sure we've got similar fields near us in the states, but I don't recall ever pedaling by these crops before on any of our rides. The smell was pretty powerful

We found a cute little park in Malans next to a grocery store. So we bought some sandwich ingredients and raspberries and enjoyed a nice little lunch

The scenery just past Malans was spectacular... field after field of rolling vineyards and corn with mountains and valleys. We probably should have spent a little more time capturing some of the imagery from this part of the ride

The route eventually turned into a long straight path where the Rhine almost appeared to be a canal as we got closer to Vaduz

We rented an apartment in Vaduz Liechtenstein with Ellen's brother Brian and his wife Frances. It was great to spend the afternoon/evening with family

Had to haul the bikes up to our apartment on the 3rd floor

My bike was a little heavier than Ellen's

Our apartment had a view of the Vaduz Castle where the Prince of Liechtenstein and his family live.

Hey these two look similar

Then we headed up to Malbun, a ski resort town in the hills directly above Vaduz. We took a chair lift to the top and roamed around the peak for a little bit. Then hiked a trail back down to Malbun for dinner at a wonderful restaurant

Nice shot of us on the mountain top
