Patrick O'HaraLooks like we're travelling down some of the same territory, only a couple of months apart. We were on the same ferry. Looking forward to following along.

Tony BontaTo Patrick O'HaraVery cool. I checked out your route a little and you give me some great ideas for other European rivers Ellen and I should be checking out at some point in the future.

One of the odd things we've noticed on our trip so far is aside from the occasional heron, swans and ducks, we're not seeing any of the typical critters you'd see popping up near us in the states... foxes, ground hogs and deer. Well I think we just discovered why... Apparently these guys hunted them all down and hung them on their wall here.

Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries

Patrick O'HaraClassic Monty Python quip! You missed the best part though..."I fart in your general direction!"

Tony BontaTo Patrick O'HaraThat is the quintessential Python line, but I'm still a big fan of mother rodents and elderberries ;)

Another intersection in Bacharach. We were hoping to spend the night in Stahleck castle in this town, (which you can see on the hilltop to Ellen's right), but with our flexible schedule, we didn't want to make many reservations in advance. So by the time we were comfortable we could spend Thursday night in Bacharach, it was already completely booked. So we headed further up the river and stayed at St Goar

Ellen looking over the famous Pfalzgrafenstein castle, which is actually in the middle of the river. It used to serve as sort of a toll gate for this area of the Rhine

It had been a gorgeous weather day for us... temps in the mid 70s w a slight breeze until about 20 minutes before our final destination when we suddenly got pummeled with a surprise shower
