Day 8 Linares: Cafe Con Leche
Cabanas Malaga
Last night just as we retreated into our tent to use the last half of daylight to read, other campers start to arrive. A whole platoon of boy and girl scouts with lots of associated noise. They do not keep Patrick awake for long but Rachel is bothered.
Next morning, we head out after a warm coffee and cold cereal. We ride about 20km and stop at a gas station for "cafe con leche" and a pastry. Our goal is a short day to the campground in Maule. When we arrive there about noon, we find it still closed for the season. The manager is busy working on the pipes at the pool. He will let us camp for free, but there are no facilities.

It is a beautiful warm day, not a cloud in sight. We consider our options for a while in the shade of some eucalyptus trees and decide to go on a bit. All along the Pan-American highway we have seen plenty of accommodations mostly motels and cabanas.
Our goal now is Lanares about 40km further. Just before we get there Patrick calls his Oma from a gas station. Using a telephone card it is easy and cheap to call.
Another 3 km further there is Cabanas Malaga that is not cheap at 19,000 peso but they look nice and a hot shower and TV are provided.
Later, we eat at the restaurant.
Today's ride: 90 km (56 miles)
Total: 318 km (197 miles)
