Day 140 Rest Day in Tupiza
Yesterday was hard on us. Even though we did only about 50 km’s, the bad road surface and climbing wore us out. And Tupiza is a nice place for a rest day.
We start with an “americano” breakfast at our hotel and then meet up with Tanya and Suzy to exchange guidebooks and make copies of notes and maps. We find out about the road to Atocha, first of all whether there is a road in the first place. Different maps and guidebooks we have seen seem to disagree. Well, there is a road but it will be about a hundred km to Atocha and a hundred more to Uyuni.
We find place with an internet access in the back of a grocery store and check our mail. At about four, we set off for a short hike into a canyon behind Tupiza. Its quite pretty, the red rock’s, cactus and a real narrow chasm through the rocks. We go out with Tanya and Suzy for dinner.
