Day 12 Rest day Salto del Laja

November 3, 1999

We sleep in on our first rest day and after a slow start take a stroll to the falls. A concrete walkway is being constructed from the bridge to the falls. Therefore, we have to make a bit of detour, first to the brink of the falls, and then down on a trail to the river. The best views are from the bridge.

We also manage to do laundry today, eat three big meals and just hang out in camp. The campground isn't exactly beautiful, but the sites are like "parking stalls" created on the fine lava soil are separated by fences with fragrant honeysuckle and overhead are different kinds of flowering trees.

We can hear the road traffic, but it is not disturbing.
