Day 107 Paysandu: it's hot
Today is a short day, 50kms but hard because of a mild headwind, strong enough to slow us doesn't but not blow us off our bikes ... Patagonia wind will from now on be our barometer for the wind.
The road is still rolling hills, through farmland, dry farmland. A break at a junction by a Police station.
We are tired when we reach Paysandu, but there is a long off ramp over the bridge to get to the Plaza. It's hot. We find a nice room with an overhead fan near the Plaza and a few doors down from McDonald's, Hotel Rafael.
We cool off with a shower and during siesta time watch TV and read. Rachel ventures out briefly for a quarter pounder meal to share with Patrick. We plan to have a bigger meal tonight but since restaurants don't open for service until 8:30-9pm we need a little something now.
After 5, we wander and explore the streets and scout out potential dinner places. Then later go again to find a restaurant. We find another central plaza in the city that is very busy but no restaurants.
We go back by our hotel and eat at Artesimo, our table is by an open window, and we watch people walking by and in the plaza. Most still with a thermos of hot water under one arm and a mate cup in hand.
Today's ride: 50 km (31 miles)
Total: 3,525 km (2,189 miles)
