We take back roads through Island City but miss the turn to take us South. With the GPS on the tablet, we navigate on an unsealed road with favorable wind through Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area and back on track to the road to Union.

In Union we stop at the Rattle Tale coffee shop. We enjoy hot chocolate and a cinnamon roll and another cyclist shows up. He is George from Astoria and his bike is more of a bike packing setup. He has just started out doing a loop including part of what we just did today heading for La Grande.

Ready for Memorial Day.

We shop at the General store for a Campbell's mushroom soup that will be the sauce for tonight's chicken and pasta dinner and Wenda buys a red wine to enjoy in camp. And we buy the mandatory treat of potato chips for camp.

We cycle a gradual 8 miles up to Catherine Creek Campground and are setting up camp at around 1300. We have intermittent sunshine and debating whether to have a fire. Most of the down wood is probably wet from recent rains.

After we each have rested in our tent, we see that Wenda has collected some firewood. This spurred Patrick to do some more collection of wood including up the side of the hill that we could see from camp. We enjoy a nice campfire, red wine and appetizers before dinner of Chicken with mushroom sauce and  pasta.
