Day 66: Riga to Rutki
Navigating out of Riga and onto a Busy road
“This hostel is really nice, we need to leave a nice review,” Rachel says as we are eating a breakfast again with the food provided before heading out. The hostel is also perfectly located to get out of Old Town with only a block of riding on the cobblestones to the bike path that will take us out of the city. Patrick had reconnoitered the path yesterday walking back from the Central Market and with the Information Center staff a few days ago, he navigates us out of the city. Just outside Riga city limit, we stop at a Lidl grocery store to pick supplies for the today and tomorrow.

Two and half hours and 25km later we have ridden out of the city on a bike path, then onto a busy road until we reach a secondary road until we are spit out back onto the busy road for 500 meters to another road that takes us to the dam and across the Daugava River to P85. As we will be on this road for the next several days, we hoped this road would be less busy. However, it is only slightly less busy and does not have a shoulder…. We hope traffic will decrease as we get further away from the city.
The wind is picking up and we are riding straight into it. It is again warm and humid and we are happy to reach our destination by 130pm. The room is ready and after a refreshing icecream we move in. There is a well-reviewed restaurant where we eat dinner. An excellent meal of Pork chops and Salmon. Breakfast is incuded in our $45 room so we are looking forward to that tomorrow morning.
Today's ride: 57 km (35 miles)
Total: 3,289 km (2,042 miles)
