Day 44: Lakselv to Karasjok

Last full day in Norway with a Headwind!

“I’ll try to draft you,” Patrick says as we set off early trying to avoid the stronger winds forecasted for today. We’ve not ever been able to draft well, since our styles and strengths are so different, but it seemed to work today. We set off early and into a wicked headwind.

The first hill out of Lakselv, leaving the fjord is a doozy. We struggle into the wind and wonder if we’ll be able to make it 77km to Karasjok today. But after that first hill the road meanders a bit, and the trees give us some protection from the wind. We pass a large military training area, lots of lakes and lots of trees.

We pass through a military training area. Many things are "forbut!"

Every fifteen kilometer we find a spot to eat some food and by about two o’clock we start the final downhill into Karasjok.

After buying some food at the supermarket we backtrack a little to make our way to the campground. In the final kilometer Patrick feels his rear tire go squishy again. The tire liner has stuck again. We make it to the campground but just barely. All is good, the sun is shining and with the warmth the mosquitoes are absent. The campground has a pretty nice tent area and a good kitchen where Rachel fixes a large omelet for dinner.

We just kept cycling so not many pictures today.
