Day 25: Brustada to Hammerstad

Thunderstorm then sunshine

“I guess this is the 20% chance for rain,” Rachel says as we reach a bus shelter just after the rain starts. “It’s pouring horizontally now,” Patrick says as we try to wait out the storm. When we take off again we hear thunder and light flashes. But this doesn’t last long.

Only a few are waking up as we have packed up and in the campground kitchen to eat our breakfast. There are a couple of guys cycling starting to pack up, and there is another older cycling couple in the campground that didn’t look like they were up yet. We figure that the guys will pass us sometime on the road as they looked like they do long days.

The sky is cloudy, but it looks to be a nice day. We continue following the coastline following the inlet of the bay, the meandering adding to the distance.

A storm is headed our way, we find shelter at a bus stall

Just as our road is to intersect with the major road again, the rain starts in a downpour. We cross one of the high rise bridges we wonder if this replaced ferries. We stop at the bus stall at the other side as a refuge from the thunderstorm.

The storm passes and the sky looks to be clearing. We reach the top of a big hill and stop at another bus stall. As we are eating, we see a family of four cycle touring and it’s impressive how they are all staying together on the hill.

reflecting mirrors by an American artist. It doesn't work very well in the rain though because the water distorts the image.

Rachel struggled with this hill, "pulling back on the pedals" as instructed by Barb, spin class.

And watch this family of four zip up the hill at a steady pace all together.

At about 8km out of Svolvaer there is a bike path that takes us to a round-about and a Kiwi Grocery market. We stop for supplies then continue on the bike path to the other side of town. The road becomes more hilly and it’s a welcome sight for Rachel to see the campground for today. We find a site that has chairs and a table from old cable spools. As the evening progresses the campground fills up

The Wi-Fi isn’t great but cold beer is sold and we enjoy a Tuborg with our dinner.

The frozen dinners are a hit! Tonight we have pasta carbonara. Easy to fix, not a lot of clean-up.
