To Sulthan Bathery: beautiful tea plantations
"I think I photo bombed the guy's movie" Rachel says. We are stopped once again enjoying the views when a bus comes up the hill toward us. Rachel waves at the guy taking a movie of the scenery. We are going slowly today stopping and taking a record number of pictures.
Early morning start, there is frost on the grass and we are wearing layers for the first part of the day. After about 30kms rolling road through cypress forests, we begin a 25km stretch down the "film shooting hill" through hillside after hillside of tea plants under eucalyptus trees. Eventually we reach a lower elevation where the tea gives way to coffee plants and tropical forest.
On the outskirts of Gudalur, within 100 meters of each other was a Christian church, a Hindu temple and a Mosque. Cycling through Gudalur was chaotic. The road then returns to rolling with one section going down into a gully only to climb out. We are booked at the Mint Flower Hotel in Sulthan Bathery. Checking into lodging is a process that is never quite the same. There is a form to complete, passports copied and today, a digital photo is taken of us.
Briefly being in the state of Tamil Nadu, we are now back in Kerala.
