to Kapchorwa: need to take a ride
As we break camp, even the roosters seem to crow "How are youuuu, muzunguuuu". The road continues to be the same and tough, it is Patrick not feeling well, that we both are ready to try to take a ride.
Most of the traffic are boda, bodas (motorcycles) and some official looking land cruisers. Finally, a truck comes by, Patrick waves him down, negotiates a price, bikes and gear loaded and we are passengers.
It takes 2 hours driving the 20 kms to Kapchorwa. Bouncing around inside the cab of the truck hurt almost as bad as cycling. We are dropped off at the edge of town, reload our bikes and cycle up the hill toward town. Just on the edge is a very nice place, Savannah Guesthouse. It's about 11:00, cold showers, a few things laundered and Patrick rests most of the afternoon. We walk into town for a supermarket for milk and bread.
We have no internet capability until we can buy a sim card for Uganda. At Suam, we still had Kenyan data but running out. We'd had a message from a Facebook friend, Javier Martinez (http://www.bicicleting.com) that he is cycling a day behind us in Kitale and we would probably meet in Sipi Falls. Patrick sees a telecom service center and after two more shops, buys a sim card, but there is difficulty in setting up for only internet. Patrick is still not feeling well.
The guesthouse advertises a restaurant. But it's a restaurant without a menu, you just tell them what you want. Even with menus, half of items offered are not available. We order chapati (flour tortilla), spanish omelet, rice and beans. "It's almost ready", this was at 7pm when we were told it would be ready. We wait. Another half hour, "It's almost ready". We wait. Finally, we eat.
"After all, this is Africa."
