to Gelibolu: strong winds beating us up
Over time cyclist learn to read the road and judge whats up ahead. "It's never a good sign when a four lane road adds a passing lane for the uphill" Rachel says.
We start the climb to get over to the Gallipoli Peninsula that lies between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sea of Marmara for today's destination of Gelibolu.
As we start the descent, we again see the Mediterranean Sea and a glimpse of the Sea of Marmara. For awhile a crosswind, but then the road turns just enough....
"What a difference a tailwind makes" Patrick says. We enter Gelibolu through a maze. No wonder East and West don't understand each other. The West thinks linearly with streets on a grid, the East with streets like a labyrinth. The center of the town is a huge pedestrian area and market as we weave around it to get to the Gallipoli Konuveki hotel, another spot that we heard about from the British cyclists we met a few days back.
