to Ayutthaya: deja vu
We have the alarm set and go for an early start today. The plan is to both beat the heat and get to Ayutthaya early so we can visit the Historic Park there. We decided to take a slightly longer route today, but to stay off the busy main road.
The riding is uneventful, no flat tires today, mostly very good road surface and only medium traffic. At eleven we reach Ayutthaya and after a little searching find the guesthouse where we had made a reservation. The place is basic, our room does not have hot water, but the atmosphere is good and the location is good.
After a short rest we walk to the Historic Park. There are many temples and monuments to see here, but we stick with the three most impressive right in the center of town. We were also here on our 2006-07 trip but wanted to come back because this was one of the more impressive sights. The most iconic sight is the Buddha head entwined in a Banyan tree's roots. We have to compare photos, but is appears the head has been swallowed a little further. It is very hot again today, we walk and walk until we both had had enough. Then we take a tuk-tuk back to the hotel.
