Introduction

Update 2021: This journal was originally published 2015-2017 on that "other" cycle journal site before it was deleted by the administrator. We've left it mostly as is, correcting a few items, adding new photos, and uploading those photos that did not transfer. We also created maps that did not transfer, as accurate as we could get to the route. We hope you enjoy reading. If you want to follow us on this tour or read past tours, You can view the journal for free, but if you want to comment you must (for free). Sign Up - CycleBlaze We hope to hear from you.

Seven years after our last big-bike-trip we are going to try one more round-the-world adventure "before we get too old".

Roughly our plan is to spend two years on the road. We'll fly to the Netherlands on March 24 to visit with Patrick's family and start cycling on April 1, 2015. First across eastern Europe towards Istanbul, then Turkey to Georgia. We will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary July 8th when in Georgia.

After that comes Africa, this time Nairobi to Capetown, India, Himalayas, Pamir Highway and Mongolia. We would like to return the southeastern Asian countries we visited on our last trip (2006-07) to see different areas, parts of Indonesia we haven't seen and end the ride from Darwin along the west coast of Australia to Perth. Or we may continue on to South America.

Thank you for following us, let us hear from you through our guestbook and email.

Mark BinghamWere you actually able to cycle in Antarctica, even for a mile or so just to say you did? Cuz, you know, that would be amazing!

Rachel and Patrick HugensTo Mark BinghamHi Mark, no we left our bikes in Ushuaia hostel, sat in the tour office waiting to find out if we got a spot on the ship. We were finally told you have a spot...run... we were on board, the ship sailed as we were still in the lobby waiting to be assigned a cabin.
Agree that would have been cool but at least we got on board.
