Hampi: two restdays: Hampi world heritage area
Yesterday afternoon, Jeelan, our tuk tuk driver and guide took us around the "free sites" and to a sunset point. Today, he picked us up at 0900 to go to the other historic Hindu temples. We will save seeing on our own the closest temple that is still functioning as a temple, Virupaksha temple, for tomorrow.
There is an incredible sense of history in the area dating back to the 5-6th century when Buddhism was prevalent to the 13th century with an Islamic invasion until the rise of the Vijayanagara empire (Hindu).
Both tours made for a long afternoon and morning and we highly recommend not doing an all day tour unless time is limited.
