Day 110: Carmel to Bangor
A short hilly ride
“We need little windshield wipers for our glasses,” Rachel says, as we start out in a misty fog. We have a nice visit at breakfast with Kim and Jim and leave a little later than usual. Today is a short distance in miles but long on hills.
Again, no need for a second breakfast today, instead we stop for coffee and donuts at, you guessed it, Dunkin’ Donuts. We come into Bangor off US 2 around the airport. Patrick navigates us to Stephen Kings House where there a few people taking pictures and of course we do the same.
We are close to our Warmshowers stay for tonight and will take a rest day tomorrow. Martin greets us and gets us settled into room. He’s a past racer and knows Jim from last night. Lesa arrives later and takes Patrick to Hannaford market for supplies, then she leaves to their other house. We eat a small lunch and visit more with Martin until he also leaves for their other house, and we have the house to ourselves.
The skies look dark as we walk to a BBQ place for dinner, and while we are eating there is a short rain shower. We work some more on our route, Patrick contacting potential Warmshowers hosts. Before Martin left, he phones his friend in Meddybemps and we arrange a place to stay with him. This then sets up a change in route to Eastport. We still could take a longer route through Calais or a shorter route directly to Eastport. Either way, this will be our furthest eastwardly point.
