El Pont de Suert to Tremp

Another great day, despite the uncooperative weather!

After two days with off-and-on rain, the chains needed a little TLC. Neither of us had the energy or desire to do it last night. There wasn’t much room in the bike storage but plenty of space in the plaza outside our hotel.

It was only a few hundred metres on the nasty N-230 before we turned off with the N-260 to ride east and then south.

Flower of the day, seen on the side of the road along the climb.

Made it to the first high point! Then it was a bigger descent than I expected—I really should have put my jacket on.

Soon enough, though, the road tilted up again and I would have needed to take the jacket off again. This was the highest high point of the day.

Shortly after I reached Port de la Creu de Perves, the rain started and stayed with us all the way down. The road surface was very bumpy, it was raining, the views were lovely, so no desire to go too fast.

We stopped for a warming coffee and cake in Senterada.

The very pleasant café-bar in Senterada. It was hard to tell if it was open from the outside, but it was.

It was astounding that the N-260, reduced to a single lane through Senterada, would now become a wide (for Spain) two-lane highway with shoulders. But it did, and we zoomed mostly downhill all the way to Tremp.

I didn’t take a photo, but here’s a screenshot from Google Streetview.

No, there isn’t a sign telling northbound traffic to go another way.

There were a couple of tunnels, but they were so wide and high and well-lit that they didn’t seem as long as they were. And there were views!

We arrived at our hotel in Tremp shortly after 2.  The town didn’t look tempting, so it will be easy to rest up for tomorrow.
