Passing Go! in Monopoli
OK, cheezy title, but how could I resist? Today we wandered this wonderful town. Easily the best "old town" yet, and wonderful views on the water as well. Probably the best part, you don't have the crazy elevation changes on the streets because this is seaside, not top of a hill.
Our hotel was an extremely old building (12th century)...

Nice room, but with mysterious stairs upwards...
To a private terrace with our own washing machine. Oh joy!
First off, last night we just wanted a charcuterie and wine, and found a street side table.
Then today (post laundry detail), we walked around the town.
We decided to check out one of the beaches to see if a swim was in order.
The near section was just concrete and stone, but at the far end was a small beach where we decided to throw caution to the winds.

Tonight, for a romantic dinner on our last night in Monopoli, Marjory found a place that made gluten-free meals. Just after ordering, 20 kids descended for a birthday party. We knew we were in trouble when every single one of them ordered a coke. Then the single Italian guy beside me decided to contact everyone on his rolodex. Of course, he had to yell because all the kids were making quite a racket! I almost needed a second glass of wine.
We have a very short ride tomorrow, just 10 or 11 km to Polignano a Mare, so a late start as we cannot check in too early there and temperatures are not too hot either. Highs of 22 or so, but when compared to Canmore snow right now, it is looking good! Good night from Monopoli.
