Plantations, riding along the river.

Gramercy to Norco

Wow, are we ever eating well in Louisiana! The food is SO tasty. Staying with Jerry and Stephanie was a real treat. They know so much about this area. We learned tons!

This was our dinner last night. This morning, Stephanie made Boudin hash, biscuits, bacon and fried eggs. Jerry brought out straight cane syrup and mixed it with Mexican Cream and you dip your biscuit in it. Oh man! Everything was SOOO good!

Jerry offered to drive us over to look at the Plantations across the river.

We bicycled over this bridge out of Gramercy last year. It has a nice shoulder.

First we stopped at the slave quarters. Jerry told us once the slaves were freed, they stayed on as share croppers and sometimes became owners of the plantations when the original owners passed on.

The slave cabins were right in the sugar cane fields.

We were on the shoulder of the highway and there was lots of brick a brack and Stephen got a flat. There was a long wire sticking out of it and I pulled it out and it hissed!

Lots of industry along the river. That's sugar cane growing in front of the refinery.

Once we got back up on the levee it was really nice.

The water is right up to the bottom of the levee but it hasn't ever breached it here.

The road is under water here!

Google says we have to cross at the Bonnet Carre' Spillway on 61. So off we went and there was a shoulder. We were across before we knew it.
