Wisques - Arras.

We set off the next day in good weather after a decent breakfast, towards Arras. What became our daily eating routine had not yet established itself . That's how we found ourselves, at lunchtime, in the village of Valhuon , eating microwaved Lasagne in a café-bar, partially decorated with Racing.Club de Lens posters and run by a cousin of Gérard Houillier, the Liverpool F.C. manager. Uninterrupted by other customers the proprietress was able to give the near warming-up of the Lasagne her full attention. She was pleasant with it, though, as they say. We made Arras around 4-30pm. We had decided that we would stay at the Youth Hostel. Arras town centre has two large squares one of which, .La Place des Héros, is bordered on one side by the town hall, the other, La Place d'Armes contains the YH. Both these squares are superb examples of Flemish Architecture, spacious with high front gables and arcades. Our accommodation on the other hand was miserably cramped , a two tier bunk bed fitted into a room with enough space for a two-tier bunk bed. A good dinner was had at the Café Ch'ti, a fish restaurant, whose name is the local slang word for a local inhabitant, ie. of the Pas de Calais. There is also an eponymous brand of beer. I had mussels and chips; when in Rome
Today's ride: 86 km (53 miles)
Total: 152 km (94 miles)
