Sep 30 - Boise River Greenbelt

Today was a “blast” from the past as we were in this area 25 years ago when we toured from the Oregon coast to the front range of Colorado. Our start in Bellevue was not too far from where we had to turn around and find an alternate path in Mountain Home where, 25 years ago, we opted to followed Route 30 rather than the road from Mountain Home up towards Craters of the Moon.
Once we got to Boise, we took a few hours to cycle the Boise River Greenbelt, a place we had spent a few miles on years ago. Boise, of course, has changed a lot since our last visit and has done a good job of not forgetting the cyclists with its evolution.
We did encounter a nice number of trail users, saw 2 recumbent trikes, and lots of walkers, skaters, and cyclists. As this was a middle of the day ride, we opted to drive further west to setup tomorrow’s ride and ended up driving the very route we cycled so long ago.
The road, of course, has been redone but there were several marked sites along the way that cam back from the deep memory. We spotted the town where we met a road angel who would house us, the rancher’s field where we spent the night in the goat head thorn patch, the summits of Drink Water and Stinking Water passes, and the long, straight road into Burns. Lots of old emotions and memories and I must admit, we didn’t miss cycling up those passes this time around.
Today's ride: 26 miles (42 km)
Total: 8,221 miles (13,230 km)
