Sep 27 - Driggs and the Idaho Falls Greenway

Today was a two part day as we needed to start heading west but we didn’t have a long enough ride at our starting point or ending point to do one ride.
The first ride out of Driggs, Idaho was a simple out and back style ride. The pathway was workable although not the smoothest we’ve seen. We did end up exploring a little bit of Driggs and stopping by the local grocery store where I had a good conversation with an older lady about recumbent trikes, etc.
Our second ride was in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The city has a greenway that basically runs along either side of the Snake River. The path was in mostly nice condition although there were a few sections with tree root issues. Idaho Falls is named after the river falls that are part way through town but I imagine they aren’t anything like they were before the Snake River was tamed with modern dams, etc. One interesting item for me involved the west side of the pathway towards the southern end. There certainly was “planning” involved but the small part of the ride took us through what felt like a modern day ghost town. Nice buildings and roads, but simply no people and most of the store fronts were empty. Maybe somebody is planning for the future but different.
As this was an out and back ride, we simply switched sides of the river for our return trip.
Today's ride: 29 miles (47 km)
Total: 8,126 miles (13,078 km)
